About Yallingup
“Yallingup” is the aboriginal name for “Place of Love”, and beautifully describes this favourite holiday and honeymoon destination.
The attractions are many and varied, with wineries, breweries, restaurants, galleries, arts and crafts, and of course, the spectacular rugged landscape, world renowned surf beaches, and fascinating limestone caves. There are plenty of activities for children, including horse riding at the local Mirravale Riding School, beach fishing or boat charters, and seasonal whale watching.
Beaches
The most popular beaches are well known to surfers, however, family swimming can be enjoyed in the sheltered water of the Yallingup Lagoon. Just above the beach front there is a surf shop, kiosk, small gallery and a children’s playground.
We also recommend the short drive to stunning Injidup Beach, just south of Yallingup at the end of Wyadup Rd. This beach is also very popular with local surfers, however is usually less crowded. There are no amenities here, so you will need to take refreshments.
Walks
For walkers, the track from the parking area at Yallingup along the limestone coast down on to Smith’s Beach will please, especially as it drops on to the sand at the secluded end. A 10 minute walk from here will take you past the local surfing school in summer, to the safe swimming beach at the Smith’s Beach car park.
Houses
All our holiday homes in Yallingup Bay are on the hillside overlooking the water and a short walk to the beach or the historic gardens at Caves House (a wonderful spot for an ice cold beer on the grass).
Our country Yallingup homes are mostly a ten minute drive to the beach, and a similar distance to the closest town, Dunsborough. Excellent galleries featuring West Australian artists are clustered in this area, and we recommend a visit to the beautiful Gunyulgup Gallery on the lake, and the intimate Purist Gallery.
Restaurants and Wineries
We highly recommend guests try the excellent local restaurants for lunch, particularly Lamont’s, Vasse Felix , and Cape Lodge, and pop in to taste the Merlot at Happs, one of the original vineyards in the area.
Your holiday….
The perfect summer day in this area will usually start with the beach in the morning until the sea breeze cools the bay, lunch at a vineyard, followed by gallery hopping in the afternoon. Evenings are usually spent at home with the barbecue, thus avoiding the roads and the local kangaroos.
Winters’ days are best spent exploring the vineyards, galleries and restaurants – try Lifestyle Margaret River for a wonderful carefree day of touring. Just light the fire at night, and continue the tasting.
